SAP Business Intelligence (BI) has previously been known as SAP Business Warehouse (BW) and SAP Strategic Enterprise Management (SEM). The functionality from both components has now been integrated in the latest version of SAP BI.

SAP BI is primarily used for analyses and reports across all components and applications – including data from other, non-SAP systems.

In addition to the reporting and analysis components, SAP BI contains functionality for planning, forecasts and simulation. Finally, it provides the opportunity for consolidation across the company.

Through the acquisition of OutlookSoft, Virsa, Pilot Software and BusinessObjects, SAP has been able to put together a suite of EPM tools that supports the business’s requirements for converting strategy into practice, as well as the ability to plan and consolidate data across systems and applications.
